Kit Hobday memorial service

by Gael Pawson 11 Aug 2006 10:06 BST 27 September 2006

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Kit Hobday is due to be held in the Events Centre at Cowes Yacht Haven at 1430hrs on September 27. The venue has been selected so it will be possible for the Farr 52 'Bear of Britain', so much a part of Kit's life and his legacy, to be on display in all her glory.

The service will bring together Kit's friends, family, competitors and crews to celebrate his remarkable life which sadly ended on June 20 following a brave battle with Prostate Cancer. Since Kit's death, 'Bear of Britain's' young crew have been racing in Kit's honour, competing in the Commodores' Cup and Skandia Cowes Week.

Kit's widow, Susie Hobday, commented, 'Cowes Week was very poignant, but nevertheless it was very successful and enjoyable. I would like to thank everybody involved especially the team.' She added, 'Kit was, of course, sorely missed. I know he would have been extremely proud of how the boys have performed since they have lost their leader and their inspiration. I am pleased to be working with a marvelous group of people who are determined that Kit's ethos with the 'Bear of Britain' and the Bear of Britain Academy will go from strength to strength.'

All are invited to attend the service, please RSVP to bearofbritain@aaamarine.com by September 17 or register your attendance on www.bearofbritain.com/memorialservice/index.asp. For those unable to attend there is also a book of condolence on the website where where thoughts and messages can be left for Kit's family.
