Mirror Europeans at Poole Yacht Club - Day 1

The 2006 Mirror European Championship kicked off with the Opening Ceremony on Monday, this saw competitors, coaches and supporters march through the streets of Poole to be greeted by the Mayor and the traditional mixing of the waters.

For the first day of racing the 108 boats enjoyed some top class championship racing, with PRO Colin Rainback able to run four races in a building sea breeze.

Race 1 saw MCA Youth Squad Members Natalie Roach and Harrison Reece dominate the proceedings and win from Emma Houlihan and Emily Mackenzie both GBR, with Doire Shiels and Graham Daly of Ireland third.

Race 2 saw 2006 National Champions Hector Cisneros sailing with son Ben put aside their OCS of the first race and take the bullet from Emma Houlihan and Emily MacKenzie, with Natalie Roach and Harrison Reece third all GBR.

Race 3 saw Fireball Champion Vince Horey with daughter Anya sailing her first Championship win from Hector and Ben, with 13 year Jack Yeoman and Chantal Crane third.

With the fleet keen to get back to shore for a visit to the local water theme park, Race 4 started with a general recall, eventually getting away in the building breeze to see Natalie Roach and Harrison Reece take their second win from Doire Shiels and Graham Daly, with Eloise and Kayleigh Hansen third.
