Emily O'Carroll and Sarah McKernan will be joining the crew of Ultima, an Oyster 56, skippered by Jon Barkway, for a passage from the Cape Verdes.

When Jonathan Barkway and his wife Angela advertised for crew, Emily and Sarah couldn't believe their luck. Their scheduled voyage with another OCC boat was cancelled when the skipper they had been working with had a fuel tank failure. Now they would be flying to the Cape Verdes to meet up with Ultima instead. It pays to be flexible.

Emily and Sarah will be photographing and filming their adventure, and writing it all up for the website and the OCC flagship publication, the Flying Fish. We'll post updates as soon as they've arrived in Barbados. In the meantime, hopefully you'll be able to follow Ultima's progress via the Fleet Map.

Emily and Sarah, both from the environs of Dublin Ireland, have been longstanding members of the Sea Scouts. They have experience with coastal passages in the west of Ireland but crossing an ocean was their dream. They hope to see whales and many other wonders. As mobile signal permits, they'll be posting on Instagram with copy to the OCC Instagram page. We wish them fair winds, kind seas, and lots of wonders.
