London River Travellers Trophy at Erith Yacht Club

Erith Yacht Club hosted the last leg of this 3-leg annual open meeting sailed on the tidal River Thames. Greenwich, Gravesend and Erith Yacht Club organize and at Erith there were 6 clubs competing.

28 dinghies made a clean start in a small Easterly wind which incrased throughout the race to make the 3-lap windward/leeward course perfect for the conditions. MRXs flew ahead of 11 Bosuns, 5 Hamble Stars, 2 YW Dayboats and the odd Topper, Laser, Osprey, Albacore, Snpe and Tideway.

Dayboat 636(Gravesend) took the line in 6th position - a certain win for that race. Greenwich Bosun 3 was well sailed taking 2nd place followed shortly by Erith team in Bosun 2212. Topper sailor Peter Reeves (Erith) sailed consistently in all 3 races and took the Youth prize. Of the 5 youth sailors youngest on the water was S Mees in Erith Snipe 24776.

After the 2 hour race, competitors enjoyed spag bol on the club ship and prizegiving on the sun deck. Club with most points - Greenwich Yacht Club. Club with most entrants - Erith Yacht Club. Winning helm received the trohpy and bottle of wine and jar of Erith Honey. Sweet success!

Travellers Trophy at Erith
London River trophy 2nd leg 35 dinghies headed for the start line at Erith Yacht Clubs leg of the London River Travellers Trophy series of 3 races. Just before the start the wind picked up to 21 knots and a choppy river forced a few sailors to turn back. Posted on 13 Jun 2005
