Saturday saw a bright sunny day, but with a light variable wind greet the 43 boats taking part in the Hampton Sailing Club regatta. This included visitors from both Minima and Aquarius Sailing Clubs.

Sunday saw a better day for sailing after a postponement of 30 minutes to the first start that allowed time for some wind to arrive.

There was racing for five classes of boat, Merlins, GP14s, Enterprise, Toppers and a mixed Handicap fleet, with 5 races for each class, the best 3 results for each boat to count towards the class prizes.

Hywel Perkins crewed by Andrew Bedford, recorded three straight wins to dominate the Merlin class and left Richard Page crewed by his daughter Elizabeth to take second spot.

The Enterprise races were a much more open affair with three different helms winning at least one race and leaving all to be decided by the final race. This being won by Steve Collins, crewed by Cathy Collins from Minima Sailing Club to take the honours and top spot in the Enterprise class.

The handicap class saw Peter Skingley take the honours with wins in three races and the club’s commodore, George Bell, finish in the runner up position.

GP14s were to be a very close contest between two boats with Keith Edwards crewed by Nicky Goulter winning both the races on the Saturday, chased home by Kevin Anderson crewed by Maddie Anderson in each race. These positions were to be reversed on the Sunday with Kevin winning overall.

There was a good turn out of juniors in the Topper class and this class was, again, to be a closely fought competition with three different boats all winning races. The final and deciding race going to Suzannah Bell leaving Charles Anderson and Morgan Perkins in her wake.

Fine weather and a good turn out, together with the assistance of a good group of club members had contributed to a successful regatta.
