On a day better suited to sunbathing, nineteen British Moths gathered at Medley Sailing Club for the Moth Bowl. Unusually it was the visitors held the upper hand in all four races with Peter Cook (Frampton on Severn SC) and Colin Hall (Hunts SC) continuing their early season rivalry and Andrew Parker-Mowbray (FOSSC) continuing the form that he showed at the Frampton Open Meeting. With the start line being set upstream, on of the biggest challenges was to get to the start line on time, something that caught several of the less organised entrants out.
Cook won the first race from Hall, a situation that was reversed in the second, and reversed again in the third, which led to a last race decider, Cook led from the line and looked to have the trophy won, until he took one of the marks on the wrong side, by the time he had recovered, Hall was through to win the trophy on tie break, each having two firsts and two seconds. Parker-Mowbray put in four third places to finish third overall, leavingt the first home boat (Ian Howlett) in fourth. Tina Hardyment from the home club won the ladies prize, with Fennella Gass (Bristol Avon) second and Laura Honey (Frampton) third.
As always Medley put on a superb event, both afloat and ashore, and all competitors are looking forward to the autumn event.
