Blackwater Sailing Club Steward Rob Dean and Club Assistant Zoe Nelson were recently honoured by the RNLI at a presentation evening held at Maldon Little Ship Club. Blackwater Sailing Club also got a big thank you from race organiser John Rogers for all the support they gave to the Little Ship Club by providing safety boats to escort their sponsored Row and Gig race entrants again this year, as they have done for many years previously.
The event which has taken place for over 40 years, is traditionally held during the very cold Christmas and New Year holiday and safety cover is very important. The popular charity event this year raised over £10,000 for the RNLI and this sum was handed to the institution.
Rob and Zoe got a special mention for doing a brilliant job laying the marks for the course and keeping a watchful eye on the crews during the race. Zoe represented Blackwater Sailing Club at the ceremony and was very proud to accept a special award from the RNLI for her and Rob in recognition of their hard work.
