The Helly Hansen National Offshore One Design (NOOD) Regatta Series the largest national sailboat racing circuit in the United States returns to Annapolis, Md., this weekend for the third stop of the 2019 season, May 3-5. The event is organized by Sailing World and hosted by the Annapolis Yacht Club.

The annual three-day event features one-design racing, where teams compete in races against identical boats. Points are accumulated based on finishing position in each race, and the team with the fewest total points at the conclusion of the regatta wins its class. Nearly 180 teams from the Chesapeake Bay region and across the country, are expected to compete in 14 individual classes of boats.

Every year, hundreds of local, regional and national sailors register to compete in the Helly Hansen NOOD Regatta Annapolis, vying for top marks in a wide array of classes and a chance at the Overall Winner title, which earns the winning team a berth at the Helly Hansen Caribbean NOOD Championship Regatta in the British Virgin Islands, Oct. 27-Nov. 1.

Helly Hansena global leader in technical sailing apparel with more than 140 years of experience protecting professionals on the watercontinues as title sponsor for the elite sailing series for the fifth consecutive year. As part of Helly Hansen's commitment to the future of the sport, the company continues to sponsor one or two local youth teams as the Helly Hansen Junior Crew at each event in 2019.

Operating since 1988, Sailing World's National Offshore One Design Regattas, known as the "NOODs," are the longest-running and most popular sailboat racing series in North America. Every NOOD regatta attracts regional, national and international talent to compete against the local community on their home waters.

The 2019 Helly Hansen NOOD Regatta Series, which has already contested events in St. Petersburg, Fla., and San Diego, Calif., this year, continues in Chicago, June 7-9, Marblehead, Mass., July 25-28, and concludes with the NOOD Caribbean Championship Oct. 27-Nov. 1.
