Lymington Town Sailing Club Sunday Early Points Series - Overall

The last race in the Early Points Series was held on Sunday 28th April. Conditions were perfect, the wind from the North West averaging around 14 knots but gusting a bit more, except that the wind was cold. It was close to low water so the cross tide beat and wind shifts gave some excellent tactical sailing.

The fast fleet started first and sailed a simple windward leeward course. Luke and Emma McEwen led from the start and pulled away, completing 5 laps to win comfortably. The closer racing was behind them. Brian and David Earl sailed their Javelin into second beating the RS700 of Richard Lilley by just 27 seconds on handicap with Giles Chipperfield fourth in his D-One.

30 boats started in the second fleet. The Aero 7 of Karl Thorn was recalled as he lined up on transits over the line as was the scorpion of Ryan and Hannah Buchanan who shot out of the bunch just too soon. Chloe and Ben George led at the first mark and for the first 2 down-wind legs of the square course but were overhauled by the leeward mark by John Cooper and Becci Wigley in another merlin. Cooper/Wigley extended their lead to win whilst there was close racing between the Tasar of Richard Russell/Sylvia Weger, the phantom of Nigel King and the aero of Simon MaGuire. At the end Cooper/Wigley won from Russell/Weger and King third. There were 8 different classes represented in the top 10 positions.

The series results showed that consistency counts. Giles Chipperfield won the fast Fleet from Rich Keeton in an RS700. In the second fleet, the merlin of Chloe & Ben George won from the Merlin of Rob & Jan Martin and the tasar of Richard Russell and Sylvia Weger.
