The first day of the 37th Garda Meeting Optimist, event that counts this year on 1164 entries from forty countries worldwide, comes to and end with two races completed in the waters of North Lake Garda, with great breeze conditions ranging from 10 to 14 knots.
At the end of day one, Cadets' division (reserved to athletes born in 2009 and 2010) is led by Erik Scheidt, son of the Olympic sailor Robert Scheidt, the only kid to score two bullets in a row in the races of today. The German Amelie Ropke (1-3) follows in second place, also leading the girls ranking. In third place we find the first Italian sailor, Cristian Scudelari (3-2), on equal points with his compatriot Tomaso Picotti (2-3).
In the Juniores division, open to athletes born between 2004 and 2008, the Dutch sailor Yanne Broers leads the standings with 3 points (2-1), tied to another athlete from Fraglia Vela Riva, Alex Demurtas (1-2), winner of the Optimist European Championship in 2018 and first classified at the 5th Country Cup held yesterday, and to Richard Scultheis (1-2) from Malta.
The regattas of the 37th Garda Optimist Meeting will resume tomorrow, with the first preparatory signal set for 1.00 pm.
