The inaugural Marlow Rope-Show at Hayling Island Sailing Club was held on Wednesday 10th October and the team were very pleased to welcome 38 people.

They were a very enthusiastic audience, asking lots of questions about Dyneema and materials engineering, using synthetic ropes to upgrade and move away from the use of wire rope running rigging. Although this has been mostly adopted by all the pro teams and elite competitive sailing crews, it is still a relatively new innovation in the world of grass roots sailing, yet it is so beneficial for all types of sailors to know about, as it is a much safer, lighter and stronger alternative.

We had almost 40 people splicing and learning a locked eye splice, and there were plenty of attendees who learnt improved rope-care techniques, with one lady saying, "I've been doing all the things to my rope that Marlow advise against! My ropes will thank me for having come to the Rope-Show tonight!"

Many thanks also to our supporting riggers Allspars and Hayling Island Chandlery. Full details of future Marlow Rope-Show dates can be found here.
