With a good South Westerly breeze gusting to 22 knots and an ebb tide, the Race Officer sent the Nordic Folkboats on a beat to Hurst. Crackerjack and Bonnie made the best of the start, heading out to the stronger tide in Fiddlers Reach.
Crackerjack rounded in the lead and headed for the Island shore. Bonnie misjudged the direction of the tide at this mark and lost ground at the rounding, which allowed Padfoot to catch up. However, Padfoot then went for the Island shore, following Crackerjack, while Bonnie stayed to the North of Fiddlers Reach on the run to mark 2 (George Hotel) off Yarmouth. After 20 minutes, Bonnie crossed the tide and came out alongside Padfoot amongst the moorings outside Yarmouth Harbour, with neither boat appearing to have gained or lost ground, despite the divergence of courses!
At mark 2 (George Hotel) Padfoot was just ahead of Bonnie, with Crackerjack leading these two to mark E (Folkboats UK). There followed a beat to Mark B (Dunford) where the tide had started to turn. This resulted in a quick spinnaker run back to the Platform where the Race Officer decided to shorten the course.
After a glorious day's sailing in the breeze and sun of the West Solent, at the finish it was Crackerjack followed by Padfoot and then Bonnie.
