Noble Marine Supernova Travellers at Scammonden Water Sailing Club

This was the second day of the Northern Pots and the weather was sunny and warm. Given the nice weather there were 4 club boats and 7 visitors competing in the first race which started promptly at 11am.

There was some very close competitive sailing throughout the fleet first place, this was swapped several times with Scammonden Steve Yates (Scammonden) finishing in 1st place, closely followed by Derrick Jackson (Scammonden) and 3rd place was Frank McMullen (Bolton).

After a delicious lunch, races 2 and 3 were run back to back. The second race again saw very close racing for the majority of the fleet but somehow Derrick Jackson (Scammonden) made a break for it and came 1st with Frank McMullen (Bolton) 2nd and David Scott (Elton) in 3rd place.

The 3rd race had everything to play for with 3 sailors able to win overall. All three rounded the last mark together, however, Phil Davies (Scammonden) stormed past to take the win, this in turn gave the overall win to Derrick Jackson (Scammonden), 2nd was Frank McMullen (Bolton) and 3rd was Steve Yates (Scammonden).

Thanks to the OD and his team for a well organised event and to the ladies in the galley for the food.

A very enjoyable day for all involved.

Shropshire sunshine for training and racing weekend In bright early April sunshine, a 5 to 12 knot breeze settled in from the East across our 110 acre reservoir, located in the heart of South Shropshire greeting the 19 entrants from all around the UK. Light winds for the 32 competitors Sunshine and light winds greeted the 32 competitors who turned up to race at Bartley for the Craftinsure travellers event. It was an 'eyes out of the boat' sort of day 25 entries including 11 visitors were greeted with sunny spells but a cold easterly wind which at Cotswold means big wind shifts, so the race officer Steve Crocker did a great job of setting a nice course with two beats and a variety of runs and reaches. The class's first visit to the UK's foremost sailing venue, WPNSA For the first time, the Supernova fleet will be visiting the UK's foremost sailing venue, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) for the National Championships from 27th to 29th June. The lake was nearly as still as a mirror on arrival On October 13th, Haversham lake was nearly as still as a mirror with wind conditions of 0-8 knots. This led to the race officer of the day to hold two races in the morning however cancel the third due to the lack of wind. Posted on 21 Oct 2024
