September sunshine and a lively south westerly welcomed the Supernova fleet for their first visit to Emberton Park Sailing Club and round one of the Craftinsure Supernova Travellers Series.

First item on the agenda was breakfast to set us all up for what was to come.

Our Race Officer, Gary Hogan and team, set a challenging course, making the most of our lake. The shifty and gusty conditions soon claimed its first casualties to keep the safety boat crew occupied, setting the pattern for the day! Local, Daniel Stewardson, took an early lead in the first race which he was to hold to the finish of the six-lap course despite being pressed hard by the chasing pack of visitors Alex Reeve and Ady Davis and Emberton's Luke Fisher. For race two Alex built a commanding lead to take the win but would later comment on how easily the gains could evaporate in the tricky conditions.

Lunch provided a chance for us all to recharge with homemade lasagne and sticky toffee pudding.

Race three would be the decider. The leading trio of Daniel, Alex and Luke enjoyed some close sparring with several changes of lead. Unfortunately, Alex was forced to retire due to a rudder failure. A two second margin separated the leading boats at the finish, with Luke coming out on top to win the race and the three-way tie-break to take the event. Spot prizes to Steve Johnson, first capsize and Karen Bell, perseverance and 16th overall.

Thanks to all the visitors and volunteers for supporting the event. Great racing and quite a spectacle for the humble Emberton Park SC.
