13-14 January 2018
The expanding fleet of North Wales RS Teras enjoyed their first winter training weekend of 2018 in changeable conditions with lead coach Brett Cokayne. Hosted by Port Dinorwic Sailing Club / Clwb Hwylio Y Felinheli on the weekend of 13th - 14th January 2018, the wind varied from light on the Saturday to strong and gusty on the Sunday. The common theme on both days was the cold!
The fleet of fourteen Teras and a few older siblings in other boats were split between two groups, the six Tera novices being taken by home instructor Jo Powell and the more advanced sailors with Brett.
Winds were generally light on the Saturday but increased steadily on the Sunday allowing Brett to run four sessions of sailing covering:
- Boat position on the course for controlling your opponents
- Starting tactics
- Avoiding dirty wind from rafts of boats
- Penalty turns
- Follow my leader for upwind trim and lane holding
Land sessions including interactive video review were enjoyed by the sailors and parents alike.
The novice group with Jo worked on improving their general sailing and handling the boats in stronger breezes. The highlight of the weekend for the novices was a voyage to Anglesey, passports not required apparently!
Thanks must go to Brett for coaching a great weekend and to PDSC for hosting. The warm club house and galley with endless supplies of hot drinks were most welcome.
