No breeze makes for a short circuit

After a wait of over two hours for the breeze to come, Lymington Town Sailing Club’s race committee had to abandon the final race of the Solent Circuit (December 4).

Since most classes had places still to fight for, such was the close racing in the series, this was a disappointing end to a good series which lost two of its eight races to lack of wind and one race to too much wind.

The 64 entries had enjoyed weather which varied from a force 7 down to a force 2-3 during the series so conditions tested all aspects of their game. Only in the sportsboat Laser SB3 class did one boat dominate and that was Rick Otten’s Wrecked which scored wins in all its counting races.

With 19 entries and turnouts in the mid-teens, the Folkboat fleet was the most hotly contested especially up at the front. One point separated each of the first three with the fourth boat 22 points behind.

In IRC Class 2 Don Woods International six metre Scoundrel was convincing with a five point victory over second place David Frith’s Contessa 34 Amadeus.
