Sir Peter Blake Regatta at Torbay Sailing Club - Day 1

by Suellen Hurling 3 Dec 2016 10:30 GMT 3-4 December 2016

The annual Sir Peter Blake Torbay Regatta got off to a slow start this morning with fleets forced to stay ashore as they waited for the sea breeze to kick in.

It was a perfect summers day at Torbay Sailing Club. A glamour day for swimming and fishing, but less than ideal conditions for sailing.

Initially PRO Harrold Bennett kept the sailors on shore, but with his local knowledge, decided to eventually send the fleets out.

Sailors waited patiently for the breeze to pick up. Media boat driver Geoff Harden said that the sea breeze normally begins to fill at 3pm, and almost to the minute, that's exactly what happened.

Racing got underway across course A, B and C, and although it was light, it was worth the wait.

Only one race is required to constitute a series, so the regatta is officially underway.

Racing continues tomorrow for the final day of the two-day regatta.
