Wooden Spoon, the children's charity of rugby, and Sunsail, the leading sailing company in the UK, have formed an exciting partnership to launch a brand new and unique event for the world of rugby.

The Wooden Spoon Regatta will take place on the 28th September 2017, with competitors racing on Sunsail's fleet of 30 identical Beneteau First Match 40s, with each entry fee for the regatta will include a donation to the charity.

In addition to the fundraising for the UK's leading rugby charity, Wooden Spoon, competitors will also enjoy a full day of sailing and teambuilding, with their guests trained by Sunsail's expert skippers. There will also be plenty of networking opportunities for the companies and individuals taking part.

The money raised will go towards funding projects across the UK and Ireland that support children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage.

Competitors will also have the opportunity to upgrade their entry to an Ambassador Package, which will add a rugby or sailing legend to their team, allowing their guests to rub shoulders with a sporting great.

Former England 7's captain and long-standing Wooden Spoon Ambassador, Ollie Phillips, comments, "I am delighted that Wooden Spoon and Sunsail are working together. The partnership combines two of my favourite things – rugby and sailing - and the fact that all the funds raised will be supporting young people with disabilities and facing disadvantage across the UK and Ireland is the icing on the cake."

Simon Boulding, Sunsail Events Director, comments, "Sunsail is delighted to be working with the Wooden Spoon Charity on this exciting new sailing event. There have been long standing synergies between rugby and sailing and this regatta, the first of its kind for the rugby world, will further strengthen the ties between the two sports. Competitors can enjoy some great sailing, whilst raising money for a great charity and rubbing shoulders with rugby legends past and present.
