Following on from their fantastic win at the National Sailing League finals in Cowes (with a race to spare!), Team HISC, consisting of Imogen Stanley, Paul Childs, Chris O'Neill and Chris Witty, have been invited to attend the prestigious Sailing Champions League Finals taking place in Sardinia this month. The team will be representing both Great Britain and Hayling Island Sailing Club.

The aim of the Sailing Champions League is to find the best racing club team in the world. The competition holds regional and national events in each country to find the best national teams before a grand final between the nations. This year the final event will be held in Porto Cervo in September and will be sailed in J70's. The races are short and punchy 12-15 minute courses with 6 boats sailing against each other at a time. The result is extremely close and exciting racing where any mistake is immediately punished providing lots of scope for carnage which is all filmed and streamed live!

In order to raise funds to compete at the final event in Sardinia and with the additional aim of creating a future 'legacy fund' which will help 20-30 year olds compete in keelboat racing events that will boost HISC's reputation globally, the team recently organized a fund raising dinner. Hosted by Dave Spensley-Corfield, the auction, raffle and contribution from the dinner tickets, managed to raise enough money for the HISC team to attend the Sardinia event to represent Great Britain, and in addition to be able to put aside around £1,500 to help other HISC teams in the future.

Special thanks were be given to the club for paying the team's entry fee and for hosting the fund raising evening, to the HISC chef and staff for providing and splendid event and to all the generous donors who provided some amazing prizes.
