Notts County Sailing Club celebrated the Olympic sailing success (2 golds and 1 silver) with a successful Try Sailing day in conjunction with the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) over the weekend.
In spite of the wind and dire warnings of terrible weather the sun came out occasionally and though it was windy nearly 150 potential sailors went out in dinghies or on a windsurfer. Those that didn't want to sail watched from the balcony.
There was sailing in cobbles, a Wayfarer and trips around the lake in a safety boat, meanwhile on the shore there were Olympic craft to look at including a Finn, RSX windsurfer and Laser.
David Eberlin from Notts County Sailing Club said " The number of smiling faces and buzz around the club as people of all ages experienced the fun of sailing for the first time was great to see. We had around 200 people down, with nearly 150 taking to the water on sailing dinghies and windsurfers, in spite of the high winds. I hope some take up Sailing which is a relatively economic sport for life."
Gareth Brookes, RYA Midlands Regional Development Officer said, "It was just fantastic so get over 140 people to try sailing for the first time! There were so many smiley faces if was infectious, a really fun day for all. Many thanks to Notts County Sailing Club for opening their doors to the public."
