Selden Mast have made it a clean-sweep of the podium at the recent Flying Fifteen Nationals held from Hayling Island Sailing Club. The championship saw three days of punishingly strong winds followed by a serene final day with blue skies and light winds.
Jeremy Davy and Martin Huett convincingly won the title using a Selden Epsilon mast with Richard Lovering & Matt Alvarado second using an Alto mast followed by Greg Wells & Richard Rigg in third using an Epsilon mast.
We spoke to Hayling local Greg Wells after the event to hear his view on the racing, "It was a terrific nationals. Hayling Bay had some pretty brutal waves left over from a storm and the then the wind picked up again. We had to depower the rig upwind but provide enough to punch through the waves. This was then followed by some stunning downwind surfing conditions for the first three days."
On how his Selden Epsilon mast performed Greg said, "The mast performed fantastically and helped us to blade the sail in the strong winds. The versatility of both the Alto and the Epsilon masts, by adjusting your spreaders and at deck level means that the spars can be used across a whole range of different crew weights and sail makers - the Goacher Sails setup is completely different to the P&B or Hyde Sails setup. You can set the rig up straight or with pre-bend and the mast will adapt. A huge range or sails and crew weights can be accommodated - very versatile."
