A fleet of 32 boats attended the second of the RS Tera Northern Travellers Series hosted by Ripon Sailing Club and kindly supported by Fox's Marine and Outdoor Sewing Solutions on Saturday and Sunday 14 and 15 May. The home club were by far and away the biggest entry with 22 boats spread across the 2 fleets but visitors came from far and wide to support the event.

The weather forecast had had RO Bernard Clark praying for more wind throughout the preceding week and luckily the wind on Saturday held up to allow for the planned 4 races to go ahead, with the RO having cleverly adjusted the SI's to allow him to pull forward race 5 as the forecast for Sunday remained dire and turned out to be a day NOT to go sailing!

The racing provided some really good demonstrations of the abilities of these talented young sailors, with places changing throughout the races and some entertaining moves at the back of the fleet which saw competitors 'getting it right' and shooting past boats as a result. Joe Peters won the Coaches Award for just such a move, now posted on the RS Tera North Facebook page. Coral Watts received the Endeavour Award.

We were delighted to have club Racing Coach Katy Phillips supporting the newer sailors in the fleet, with guest Coach Tim Anderton (ASSF) providing further support and giving a very interesting and entertaining overview of the work of the ASSF and the impact it is having on junior and youth sailing. Jennie Clark, RS Tera North Rep, challenged the Tera Sailors to make this year's Bart's Bash a 'terafic' event in the North and to think about how they can help raise funds for this valuable cause on and off the water. A raffle run during the day raised £85 for the ASSF.

The fleet sat down together to enjoy an Italian Banquet in the evening, with delicious treats provided by Vicky, Duncan and the team at Advent Caterers, who had spent all day feeding the fleet!

A total of 44 sailors have now taken part in the Northern Series, which holds it's 3rd meeting at Derwent Reservoir SC on 4 and 5 June. The series finale, with prizes kindly sponsored by RS Sailing, will be held on 9 July at South Windermere SC.
