RC Laser & Dragon Force event 4 at West Lancashire Yacht Club

by Tony Wilson 17 Feb 2016 16:19 GMT 14 February 2016

Only nine RC Laser and seven RG65/DF Skippers were in attendance on this cool chilly morning. The reason may have been something to do with it being Valentine's Day.

The wind direction was from North East, which can be reduced in the shadow of the Sailing club. Some thought had to be given,as an ideal start would be towards the shore line. Not viably possible, so the start line was placed at an angle that could still be viewed by all.

The first two races had two triangular laps leaving all marks to port. The regular two minute countdown had been substituted for a more favorable one minute initial countdown for Lasers, followed by a further minute for the Dragon Force boats.

B rigs were gradually phased in through out the morning, replacing A rigs, to complete seven races before a Thai chicken or chilli lunch.

The blue skies meant we had a dazzling day, which, if you had forgotten your sunglasses or peaked cap, you may have looked as though you were permanently saluting, while your eyes were squinting and a hand was half-covering your face.

Aye Aye Skipper!

The afternoon saw a few C rigs introduced as the wind veered a touch enabling it to pick up in force.

Apart from Dave Foster winning the first race, then Skip Reaser having four in a row, it was then Jordan Porters turn to have a string of four first places.

The rescue boat seemed to be in permanent use with Alan and Jaden alternating for driving duty.

By the end of the day no fewer than fourteen races had been completed on this gloriously dry sunny day.

Good fun was had by all leaving us the overall winner for the day Jordan Porter, to improve on his last couple of race meetings.

Results for RC Laser:

1 Jordan Porter
2 Skip Reaser
3 Alan Tickle

Double well done to Alan still getting third place, while having to shuffle between climbing out of the boat, hitting the start of race button and picking up his Transmitter all within minutes.

Results for Dragon Force 65:

1 Tim Long
2 John Tushingham
3 Mike Parkington

No question on rig size - the smallest D rigs were chosen For today's racing the wind was very much in the upper numbers. The forecast was for it to drop but with 20 - 25 knits and direction NW. No question on rig size - the smallest D rig. Posted on 27 Mar

With no direct control, is this a dark art, or more of a lottery? With a crosswind of about 10MPH, we had 6 Skippers for the first Vane boat event of the year, the small 36 ers. Olly had joined us for the day, to see what all the excitement was about, but for some not quite as straightforward as one would believe. Posted on 25 Mar
