Last Get Racing for 2015 at Draycote Water Sailing Club

by Jeremy Atkins 9 Nov 2015 06:58 GMT 1 November 2015

On Sunday 1st November, 5 eager participants gathered for the final Get Racing at Draycote for 2015. After the usual briefing they sailed down to the bottom of the lake for the start and an "old fashioned" Olympic course with a triangle and a sausage.

After the coach for the day had urged them to be near the start line for the start, they were all in the vicinity, possibly making it one of the tightest starts seen in Get Racing at Draycote.

Neil Murray in his RS100 had a speed advantage over the 3 Lasers and one Solo, but he only just managed to get to the windward mark first, with Carla Fickling in her Laser close behind. Adrian Roberts followed in a Solo and then Carla's dad, Oliver, and Adrian Talbot in Lasers.

All 5 boats sailed in remarkably close proximity for the rest of the 45 minute race. Occasionally the RS100 got away, but in the end, Carla was less than 2 minutes behind and easily took first place on handicap. Adrian Roberts in his Solo finished ahead of the other two Lasers on the water and so claimed second overall on handicap.

43 people have participated in Get Racing at Draycote in 2015. While Get Racing may be over for the winter at Draycote until April, for the months in between we will be running Go Racing – encouraging our Get Racing participants to sail in the normal club race over the winter. They can do this any Sunday of the month, but the first Sunday is likely to be particularly popular for this group because that's the one they are used to turning up for!

So now is the time to Go Racing! See you on Sunday 6th December.

1st, Carla Fickling, Laser
2nd, Adrian Roberts, Solo
3rd, Oliver Fickling, Laser
4th, Adrian Talbot, Laser
5th Neil Murray, RS100
