ACO 6th Musto Skiff Worlds at Fraglia Vela Riva - Registration

by Rick Perkins 12 Sep 2015 08:05 BST 11-19 September 2015

The sun is shining, the south wind is blowing and sailors from around the world are gathering at Fraglia Vela Riva (Lake Garda, Italy) for the ACO 6th Musto Performance Skiff World Championships.

Today; sailors are going through the registration and measurement process. The highly efficient team at Fraglia Vela Riva are taking the sailors through the registration and the equipment inspection team are checking the competitor's boats for compliance.

Once the competitors have quickly been through this they are making their way onto the water to test the famous Ora breeze.

Sailors are returning to the dock with huge smiles and any signs of travel weariness or jet lag have been quickly blown away.

The championships entry is currently 93 boats from 12 nationals that span 3 continents. This makes this event the biggest world championships in the history of the class outside the UK.

The strength of the fleet is such that making predictions on the likely winners would be foolish with sailors with many championship wins from within the class and from other classes there is no doubt it will take an impressive performance to lift the championship trophy currently held by Jon Newman (AUS) who is here to defend his title.

Tonight competitors and their families will enjoy the hospitality of the Fraglia Vela Riva and the charms of Riva in a relaxed atmosphere ahead of the pre-championships regatta that starts tomorrow.
