West Highland Yachting Week - Day 6

by Alison Chadwick 9 Aug 2015 00:38 BST 1-7 August 2015

Good conditions for Sound of Mull racing

Racing off Tobermory on Thursday sees the fleet split into Tunnock's spinnaker yachts and the Argyll white sail yachts with the former racing an Olympic windward leeward course.

Tunnock's fleet race officer Malcolm MacGregor took the yachts to the north entrance to the Sound of Mull and two races were sailed. The white sail fleet under race officer George Seaton encountered a lighter breeze in the sound but nevertheless enjoyed the short inshore race.

Spirit of Jacana came back to take a first overall in the two races with Carmen II taking the edge on First by Farr and More Misjif in Class 1. Sunrise carried on a domination of Class 2 with Shadowfax carving out their top spot in Class 3. Glenafton won Class 4 from the Sigma 33 Busy Beaver of Mark Bradshaw with Class 6 being taken by Alistair Gay's kenspeckle Nicholson 35 Orwell Lass.

Cool Bandit 2 added another first in these races with the Sigma 33s Close Encounters second. Stargazer won Class 8 with Hot Toddy second over the two races and Garth Wilson and Lucy Downie third in Zebedee..
