Allen Brothers Enterprise Nationals at Looe Sailing Club - Overall

by Matt Velamail 1 Aug 2015 13:08 BST 25-31 July 2015

Friday came a bit too quickly and with a shifting light wind a 1 hour postponement was posted.

The fleet were then launched at 12:30 to complete their final race of the event. In the lightest onshore breeze of the week, the fleet then got away behind James Morley & Rachel Burkitt. Those that left the gate early included all the favourites and were looking good approximately a third up the beat and then the shift came in and those that had left the gate early on the starboard tack were now looking the favourites.

Tim Sadler & Richard Sault saw the opportunity to tack and cross the fleet from the left however didn't round in the leading pack. The wind continued to drop on the subsequent reaches and runs and Tim & Saulty kept on pushing eventually finishing a hard fought second. However it was the class stalwarts of John & Chris Blundell who came through to take the bullet.

Akshan & Pete had a great race to close out the podium, also with legend Lloyd Walker taking 4th and Jane & Nick Scutt securing 5th to cement their Women's National Championship Victory.

After a hard week, the class has finally completed a full series of 9 races which hasn't been done for several years now!

In the end, after close battles all week with 3-4 boats, Tim & Saulty have emerged as the long overdue winners of the Allen Brothers Enterprise National Championships, which in the end turned out to be a domination of the event with the pair over 50 points ahead on their total score to next boat (without discard) which is an accolade Tim loves to secure, proving their consistency.

In the prizegiving special thanks were given to Looe SC for a fantastically run event, both on and off the water, all the sponsors, all the volunteers, the race and rescue teams, all the competitors and a special mention to Tony Prior who came back and sailed during this event!

In Tim's thank you speech, everybody was mentioned before emotional Saulty fought back the tears, thanking his lucky stars after having forged possibly the most successful partnership with Tim over the past 20 years. Thankfully the waterworks didn't start.... (like their last victory in Tenby).

The event at Looe this year has been an overwhelming success with a huge turnout, all races completed, fantastic support, amazing atmosphere and it's safe to say the bar has been set very high. Next year we will be at Brixham for the 60th Anniversary of the Enterprise Class so here's hoping it can be just as successful as this Nationals if not more. Make sure you all book your accommodation early and make sure your there.

Massive thanks to our sponsors Allen Brothers who provided a great range of entry bags and prizes, Noble Marine for their continued support, Staydri & Dritek – two new sponsors who have great products very relevant for all sailors, Pinnell & Bax for sponsoring the buddy system, Exe Sails for two brand new jibs given away, The Cornerstone Bar & Grill – they serve a mean burger! And Tiger Treats of Looe who gave us all plenty of sweets and a big hamper for the best fancy dress!

Congratulations Tim & Saulty – Your Allen Enterprise National Champions 2015.
