West Lancashire Yacht Club Tidal Regatta

by Alex Halliwell 9 Jul 2015 10:47 BST 5 July 2015

West Lancashire Yacht Club held their tidal regatta, sponsored by Tim Harper Boats and Sails, on the sea at Ainsdale on Sunday 5th July. Sixteen boats took part in the event which included Enterprise Top Helm and GP14 Northern Bell and a handicap fleet which included everything from a Flying Dutchman to a 59er.

The fleets sailed 3 back to back races; the first two in a relatively light fickle offshore breeze and glorious sunshine, which provided very close racing, especially in the enterprise fleet. The third race was sailed in far more challenging conditions, as the wind suddenly shifted into the south and strengthened, gusting at over 30 mph. This sudden change in the weather kept both the competitors and rescue crew on their toes!

West Lancashire Yacht Club would like to extend a great big thank you to everyone who helped to make the event a success, including Southport Inshore Lifeboat who provided launching for all the competitors and our generous sponsor 'Tim Harper Boats & Sails', who provided the prizes.

We hope to see you all again next year.

Prizes for the fleets were generously donated by Tim Harper Boats and Sails.
