18ft Skiff World Championship for the Mark Foy Trophy - Days 3 & 4

by Tom Hill 3 Jun 2015 07:29 BST 30 May - 3 June 2015

Lake Garda is a great test for every boat! If you and your gear stand one week of sailing here, you can go where ever you want, without having damage or breakage in mind.

Day 3 saw the race committee push for 4 races to make up for cancelled races in day 2, including a huge hour long third race. The first two races were held in a familiar Garda breeze as the Aura pumped up to it's maximum for the day. The wind eased for the last couple of races to ease the burden on the tiring sailors.

Howie Hamlin had another cracking day counting two bullets and a second place widening the gap to second place. An incidence in the third race forced Pica to use a discard and to bring Black Dog closer in third. The two top placed Australian boats, Delonghi and Compass Markets, consolidated their positions in 4th and 5th.

Day 4 brought another punctual breeze, picking up at 12 o'clock as the fleet began to launch their boats for another guaranteed day of champagne sailing.

Pica fell back to third and team Black Dog jumped to second. Howie Hamlin with Scott Babbage and Peter Harris seem to be unbeatable. Only Stewart Mears (GBR 92), Jarrod Simpson (GBR 47), Lee Knapton (AUS, Mojo Wines) and Grant Rollerson (AUS, Delonghi) with thier Crews have beaten him this week.

There's one more day of racing, and the dominance of Howie Hamlin throughout the week means only 2nd, 3rd and 4th place are up for grabs.
