Winners three and four revealed in ilovesailing calendar competition

Mark Yuill from Westgate-on-Sea, Kent and Jane Green from Ilminster, Somerset, have been crowned winners three and four in the ilovesailing calendar competition 2015, securing themselves a spot on the 2016 ilovesailing calendar.

"Thanks to everyone that chose my photo for the ilovesailing calendar, I feel very proud and happy", commented Mark whose picture entitled, 'Returning to shore' was taken on the River Danube, Golubac, Serbia at the Serbian Sailing Association Optimist and Laser sail training clinic.

"Sometimes the magic moments in sailing happen when you least expect them, in the moments when the action finishes, and you have a few minutes to reflect on an exciting eventful tiring and fun day on the water.

"To see the young sailors returning to shore happy, hungry and a little tired after learning new skills and having fun with their friends helps me remember why I love sailing and the pleasure it can bring to those fortunate enough to give it a try", Mark added.

While Jane commented: "Woo hoo, I am over the moon. This is the first photo I have ever submitted in a competition even though I am a keen photographer.

"We finished a 16 year circumnavigation last year and went to the Norfolk Broads and bought a small motor cruising boat to use as a UK base (a floating flat). On our first trip out we were amazed at the Wherries racing in such narrow channels. We would tuck close to the bank and the booms on some would pass within inches of our boat. I have the utmost respect for these river sailors having to tack these huge sails and have complete admiration for the crew, but give me an ocean every time with plenty of room for manoeuvring!"

Jane and Mark's winning images were picked from amongst 22 stunning images submitted throughout April. "Our entrants really don't make it easy for the judging panel", commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing co-ordinator. "Once again we were spoilt for choice, but we can only choose two, but luckily we can start all over again in May. We still have eight more spaces to fill, so there's still plenty of opportunities to submit your favourite sailing photo and hopefully make it on to the 2016 calendar."

As well as claiming their spot on the 2016 calendar Mark and Jane also win:

  • Two tickets to the PSP Southampton Boat Show for the official prize giving
  • Canvas print of their winning entry
  • A copy of the final printed calendar
  • A selection of RYA goodies
