Following the success of last year's 'Get Racing' initiative, Sunday 8th March saw the start of the 2015 series. The cold windy weather, with the promise of rain and certainty of cold water, did not deter a good number of last year's participants arriving at the club keen to take part.

On assessing the conditions, some opted to delay their return until the conditions were more favourable but 4 boats took to the water after a short briefing to advise the course and recap the start procedure.

Phoebe Jones in her Tera and Lucien and Nathaniel Withers in a Feva represented the Junior fleet and were joined by Richard Knight and Roy in a Dart 16 and Jamie Docking in his RS100.

Unfortunately conditions took their toll but the Feva and Dart 16 stayed the course which was a good achievement after the winter lay-off. Thanks to Jonathan Hughes and the ODs for their assistance and laying on the extra start.

Sport England have provided sponsorship for the series to cover the cost of hiring club boats and assist with the running costs of the coach boat. We were able to welcome Keira from Sport England and show her the initiative to introduce club racing to those new to the sport of all ages.

We look forward to the numbers growing as the weather improves and the water temperature rises. The sessions will now run on the first Sunday in each month, with a briefing at 10am. Any members interested and wanting more details should contact Dave Rowe at the Club.

A shore based session is to be held in the clubhouse on Wednesday, 11 March to cover in more detail than is possible on a Sunday morning, three areas – sailing round the course, starting and the rules. Any Novice or Junior members are welcome to come along at 7.30pm.
