2000 Class and LDC join forces to raise over £2000 for the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation
Bart's Bash was one of those ideas that really fires the imagination and was perfectly in tune with the 2000 Class' approach to sailing: getting as many people on the water as possible and spreading the love of our sport whilst raising money for an excellent cause. So, in June this year the 2000 Class Association teamed up with LDC in an effort to get as many 2000s sailing in Bart's Bash as possible, creating the project "2000 x 2000s".
LDC generously donated a prize fund of £250 of vouchers to be split between the top two clubs with the most 2000 Class Association members taking part and the first 2000 sailor overall. In turn the Class Association pledged to donate to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation all membership fees received from June until racing started at the inaugural Bart's Bash this September.
The end result was a little short of 2000x2000s but well over two hundred 2000s (234) took part, raising in excess of £2000 in sponsorship. To this total the Class Association added a further £345 in donated membership fees.
The winners of the vouchers are:
Biggest club fleet (Class Association members only)
- First Thorney Island SC with twelve 2000 Association members sailing
- Second Carsington SC with six 2000 Association members sailing
Honourable mentions should also go to Weir Wood (who would have tied with Carsington had the current National Champion's, Rob and Katie Burridge, not been representing the class at the Battle of the Classes), Chichester and Bough Beech, all with five Association members sailing a 2000.
Top individual 2000 sailor:
Sarah "Slug" Kemp, Rutland Sailing Club, corrected speed 3.34kts.
