On a well attended evening, Torpoint Mosquito Sailing Club held its annual yacht prizegiving in the clubhouse on Saturday night to celebrate the winners and to catch up with old friends now that the cut and thrust of racing is done for another year. The Sailing Secretary, Yachts, Dee Casey-Brown was master of ceremonies.

The series one trophies were presented by its sponsor, Ron Gibb, with the winner of PYA - Steve Wassell in Dog's Jorrocks – taking the Harry Cann Perpetual Trophy for the eleventh time. New sponsor - Richard Bevan of Peninsula Plumbing - presented the trophies for series two.

The regatta trophies – the Gnat Cup dating back to 1930 for PYA and the Carew Pole Challenge Cup presented to the Club in 1948 for PYB – were won by Steve Wassell (Dog's Jorrocks) and George Furness in Cloud Nine respectively. The Shimell family took home a full-house of prizes with Bill Shimell (Wiz) winning both series one and series two in PYC, Olga Shimell taking the ladies' helm prize, also in PYC, and children Katie and Will winning the PYB and PYC Youth Helms respectively.

Club Commodore, Steve Creek, presented the Youth Helm awards. As well as all the race and series winners, there were some special presentations. Former Vice-Commodore Nigel Bunker explained why Chris Thomas deserved the Cruising Plate for his masterful shepherding of the club fleet and our French visitors on the annual summer cruise on a challenging arrival in Falmouth. The plate was presented to Chris by last year's winner, Tony Brown.

The final presentation of the evening was to the unfortunately absent Brian Hobbs (Lady Jane) who won the Woodman Bowl for the Most Improved Yachtsman, having come second in both series 1 and series 2 this year.

A special thank you on behalf of all the yacht sailors to Dee for giving up countless hours of her time to run the racing.
