18-22 August 2014
Day 2 saw more favourable conditions, with a steady non-gusty 12 knots NW.
The fleet were topped up on bacon sandwiches thanks to the excellent galley at the clubhouse and were raring to go.
We had the pleasure of Dawn & Peter Langdon sailing their Firefly today, with 150 years experience between them, they really are an inspiration to everyone that meets them, and sails with them.
Our St Mawes SC competitors came across, and the start was close, with some excellent sailing up to and across the line.
A few breakages hampered the day, for a couple of our RS800s but it didn't hamper the smile on Fenella Wiliams' face through out the day.
Another busy day for our rescue boat crews with a few capsizes, but Graham Dyer said, "another great day on the water, everyone enjoyed the excellent courses set by Guy English, and we thoroughly enjoyed assisting the boats and crews today."
The Fast Asymmetric class was dominated by the 29ers, with some very exciting close racing, with Elliot Wilkinson clinching first place with time to spare.
Nicholas Morgan from Thornbury SC in his Sprint 15 multihull had a bit of company today, with a Dart joining in the competition.
It was a great result for the Devoti D-Ones in the less fast asymmetric class, with a 1, 2 finish, and better day for RS400 437, who despite suffering a broken kicker, finished well in the first race.
Chloe Collenette had another cracking day in her Laser in our Less Fast Other fleet, and the Lasers really got in the thick of it, our own John Calvert & Guy Beckett both had an excellent afternoon.
Back ashore at the club, we had one of our event supporters Marlow Ropes on hand all day to give technical advice and tips, and a lot of people found that really helpful. So thank you to Peter & Nick, whose knowledge was much appreciated.
Also we had the Try a Kayak and SUP fun event on the beach, which was a great way to unwind and have a bit of fun after a hard afternoons racing.
The evening was rounded off with a DJ and a BBQ, with Lisa & Adele serving up a superb Pulled Pork supper.
The wind died completely by 8pm, and it looks like tomorrow we will only be seeing around 8 or 10 knots of NW breeze.
