Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club welcomed the Topper 4.2s to the series finale of the Virtual Rigger Topper 4.2 National Series.

Almost 70 sailors have competed in the 4.2 national series during 2014, which visited Pwllheli, Queen Mary, Grafham Water, Paignton and Northampton; in addition to the regional race events organised by the Class in local areas across the UK between March and October.

In challenging conditions for the smaller rig, 4.2 Race Officer, Kate Jones brought the fleet ashore for an early lunch on Saturday until the winds strengthened enough for three races in the afternoon.

Sunday delivered more reliable and stronger winds and four races were completed, finishing well ahead of schedule with some excellent starting skills from the 4.2 sailors.

Coco Barrett sailed an exemplary series of races, delivering a series of seven bullets over the weekend, unrivalled by any other sailors across the series.

While the sailors were racing, Topper parents and supporters enjoyed the friendly facilities of the club galley and bar, during a relaxing weekend for those camping on site in tents, caravans and motorhomes. Counselling was offered by the club to anyone suffering from the loss of WiFi and mobile phone signals but many chose to enjoy a good book, stroll to the dam to spectate or simply relax in the sunshine.

1st Boy and 1st Girl in the overall 4.2 series received special prizes of new Topper sails, generously donated by Topper International, ready for the Virtual Rigger 4.2 Summer Championships at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club in August.

Entries for the Virtual Rigger GBR Summer 4.2 Championships and the ITCA Zhik Worlds in August are open online.

Volunteers are still needed in a number of supporting roles at the GBR Nationals, no experience is required, please contract

The GBR Nationals are supported by Technical Sponsor, Harken and Topper International.
