Gul South West Mirror Travellers at Restronguet Sailing Club

by Esther Bowdler 10 Jun 2014 07:58 BST 8 June 2014

With a steady southerly 12-17 knot breeze in Falmouth harbour, Restronguet sailing club's open meeting and Gul SW Traveller series was a success, with 2 travelling from Looe and the locals sailing, it lead to some great racing.

In race one Scarlett Shepherd & Harvey Martin sailing 70716 "The Bootle Bumtrinket" made the best start, but Martin Egan and Geroge Lenney in 69667 "Bold Forester" were first to the windward mark with Esther Bowdler & Scarlett Crago in 70537 "Complete & Utter Chaos" second with Scarlett & Harvey close behind.

However at the Gybe mark Esther & Scarlett went into the lead just ahead of Scarlett & Harvey with Martin & George 3rd and positions remained unchanged to the finish.

After lunch race 2 kicked off in a bit more breeze. Scarlett and Harvey won the start again however they were overtaken on the first beat by Esther & Scarlett to reach the windward mark and finish in first place. There was a close battle for third between Olly & Archie Hawkins in 70810 "Yolo" and Martin & George with Martin & George just managing hold on to 3rd.

The last race saw a change on the podium steps as Scarlett and Harvey lead the race from start to finish and blocked Esther and Scarlett from overtaking on the run to the finish, having to complete a 720 turn as the windward boat and coming second.

Special thanks to Restronguet Sailing Club for hosting the event and to Gul for sponsoring and supplying the prizes. The next South West Traveller & Mirror Open will be held at Looe sailing club on the 28th June with a strong fleet expected.
