Cove Regatta, one of the Clyde season’s four main yacht regattas, enjoyed a good entry of 64 boats on June 11/12th.
Light and shifty winds kept the fleets on their toes on both days, and many of the overall winners were those who unravelled the wind’s mysteries on the Sunday to catch up.
One such was Graham Hutchison’s Jaru, a J109, which took two wins on the Sunday to take Class 1 from overnight leader Bateleur 97. It was a similar story in Class 2 and 3, where pairs of wins on the Sunday for Salamander (Stephen Corson) and Fortitude (Stewart Allister) earned them class wins, while in Class 4, the Dragon Meteor (T Jacobsen) made sure of its class with a race to spare.
The regatta featured a number of one design fleets, with the Sonar fleet making its first apearance at a Clyde Regatta. Gilmour Manuel took first place in Prelude on the Saturday from a six boat fleet. The long established local classes, the Loch Longs and Pipers had good racing both days, with the Sunday winners being Bag in the Pipers, and Iceni in the Loch Longs.
