Good start for Patagonia

The Enrique Elgueta Trophy started today at the Club de Yates de Papudo. On the first day of the 4th date of the 2013-2014 VTR Oceánico Championship, the boats completed two windward - leeward courses of 4 legs, with "Patagonia" leading the charge.

The action started this afternoon with the Practice Race that was scheduled for 2:30 pm. Then the boats started the first race of the event, approximately one hour afterwards, with a 15 knot SW wind. Unluckily, before the second windward mark, the Soto 40s "Estampa del Viento" and "Yali" suffered a collision and had to retire from the competition. "Patagonia" achieved their first victory of the event; second place went to Jorge Araneda's "Santander" and third to Per Von Appen's "Entel".

"Itaú" won the second race. The boat owned by Dag Von Appen took the leadership of the fleet after the second mark and was the first to cross the finish line, followed by "Entel" and "Patagonia".

Nine boats are participating in the Enrique Elgueta Trophy; "Santander", "Apolonia", "Estampa del Viento", "Yali 3", "Mitsubishi", "Itaú", "Entel", "Pisco Black" and "Patagonia". The competition will continue until Sunday and there will be live tracking of every race (the links to follow them are available at www.soto40.org). First warning signal for Saturday and Sunday is scheduled for midday.
