Soto 40s at the 34th Copa del Rey MAPFRE - Overall

by Soto40 Media 9 Aug 2015 07:19 BST 3-8 August 2015

Luis Martin Cabiedes' Noticia VI, skippered by Jose Maria Torcida, has been the best team in a very tight week in the Singular Kitchen Soto 40. The Spanish team took today its fourth victory and a fourth place, enough to complete his scoreboard with 21 points and to overtake by three points second-placed Cedric Pouligny's French team on Glen Ellen. Afonso Domingos' Portuguese team on Bigamist finished third. They docked out this morning just one point behind the leader but they couldn't manage their options with a third position in the first race of the day and a fifth in the second.

Jose Maria Torcida said: "This is my fourth Copa del Rey MAPFRE and the third consecutive, so we are delighted.

"We knew it was going to be a very tough race even though we were only a few boats, and the truth is that we are very happy because it has been really close. Nothing was decided until the last race and thanks to the good starts we have been doing throughout the event, have kept us in the leading positions. Until the third day, which was quite negative, the rest were always fighting for the top places and the result has been excellent.

"The key has been in the starts. From the beginning we considered that they were very, very important, so we have devoted much time to work them and see where we wanted to go. We have gone well, very tight and risky but you have to take risks if you want to win.

"We have also been very cool-minded and constant, especially today that it has been a very difficult day."
