An exclusive South African winery, Rickety Bridge, has been chosen as the Official Wine Supplier of the Clipper 13-14 Race

Rickety Bridge Winery in Franschhoek, is a popular destination in South Africa located in the Cape winelands with a long wine making history that dates back to the 17th century.

The founder and chairman of the Clipper Race, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, said of the appointment, "I am extremely pleased to welcome on board Rickety Bridge as our Official Wine Supplier for the Clipper 13-14 Race. I was lucky enough to sample some of their wine at Race Start; it will be a pleasure to work with a company with such pedigree and history."

Rickety Bridge currently produce sixteen exceptional types of wine covering all tastes from Rosé, Chardonnay and Merlot which will be served up at official events during the Clipper 13-14 Round the world Yacht Race.

The owner of Rickety Bridge winery, Duncan Spence said, "Having sponsored a yacht for the Isle of Sark in the last Global Challenge around the world race in 2008, Rickety Bridge is proud to be associated once again with the brave and adventurous Clipper 13-14 Race that echoes its values, independence, integrity, quality and spirit of adventure. I am also looking forward to greeting all the crews in Cape Town, where Rickety Bridge will be hosting a large party for the crews and organisers, before the yachts depart to Australia.''

"Rickety Bridge is a boutique South African winery, using limited resources to produce amazing wines, to compete against much larger and established competitors internationally, and identifies with the challenges faced by the crews of the competing yachts." Founded by legendary yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, the Clipper Race is designed to provide everyone - regardless of sailing experience - the chance to race across oceans and taste the exhilaration of completing a circumnavigation. Since its inception in 1995, the Clipper Race has turned over 3,500 novices into ocean racers.

On Sunday 1 September the Clipper 13-14 Race started from St Katharine Docks, London. The fleet will visit South Africa, Cape Town in October 2013 during the 40,000 mile race. The fleet will return to the UK July 2014 after racing more than 40,000 miles around the world visiting 14 ports on six continents.
