Musto Skiff European Championship at Attersee, Austria - Preview

by Gert Schmidleitner 30 Aug 2013 13:56 BST 31 August - 6 September 2013

Union-Yacht-Club Attersee is very proud that the International Musto Performance Skiff Class Association (MPSCA) has entrusted us with the organsation of the 2013 MPS European Championship. The regatta will take place from August 31st until September 6th 2013. With this European Championship one of the most spectacular and fastest boat classes will visit lake Attersee in 2013. In the run up of the European Championship a EuroCup will be held as the pre-race.

Forty-nine starters from 7 nations

From Monday until Friday 49 athletes from seven nations will compete for the European Champion 2013 title in the Musto Performance Skiff Class dinghies. Beside representatives from the two biggest fleets Great Britain and Germany athletes from Australia, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Switzerland and Austria will take part in the Championship.

The reigning 2011 European Champion Dylan Hector Tidd (SLO), as well as the two runner-ups Iver Ahlmann (GER) and Alastair Conn (GBR) will start in front of the west shores of lake Attersee. Iver Ahlmann is managing partner of the event´s title sponsor ACO. The extended circle of favourites consists of Frithjof Schwerdt (GER) and Roger Oswald (SUI) both of whom finished the 2012 World Championship in Weymouth as top ten.

Local favourite Moritz Zieher

Most of the Austrian Musto Performance Skiff sailors practice on lake Attersee. The local favourite is 18-year-old Moritz Zieher (UYC Attersee) who feels at home in the skiff scene. Moritz became 2010 and 2011 Youth Champion in the 29er Class and 2011 and 2012 Class Champion as well as Champion of Upper Austria in the MPS Class.

Schedule

From Monday till Friday a total of twelve races will be started. The European Championship is valid from two races. The participants can discard their worst result starting from five races sailed and their worst two results starting from ten valid races.
