22 young sailors from right across the eastern counties converged on Brightlingsea for the RS Tera Train and Race weekend last Saturday to be met with blistering sun, light breezes and a warm welcome from recently fully refurbished sailing club.
Eastern Tera Squad head coach Craig Bond ably supported by regular coach Hobie Wright and Brightlingsea locals Sarah Bines and Ollie Newman soon had the youngsters out on the water and experiencing just what the tide can do in the light winds as they sailed through some exercises and fun races on Saturday.
On Sunday it was regatta day, part of the Eastern Travellers' Series, and the OOD managed to get five short races in with a better breeze. In the Pros it was close racing between the tide-meister Sam Doble Thompson from Aldeburgh and Lucy Greenwood from Alton Water with Sam eventually winning it with Katy Atkin from Bewl third.
In the Sport fleet Archie Hainsworth continued his winning ways in the series, imperiously winning with Toby Ruffles from Royal Harwich and James Oakley from Middle Nene following.
The prizes were sponsored by Sail Medic sailmakers of Ipswich who paid for the cups and gave away superb sailing bags and Creation Covers who gave out Tera rig bags and foil bags. The series sponsors are Pioneer Pumps.
