The Internationally Recognised British Boat Builders Ovington have appointed Dinghyshop ApS as their new dealer for Denmark and Norway

Ovington Boats has an enviable reputation of building the finest performance sailboats, from the ISAF Youth Class 29er, Olympic 49er and 49erFX through to the Musto Skiff, Byte CII, Flying 15 and International 14s amongst others. The company is based in North Shields in the North East of England and distributes boats and spares all over Europe.

Ovington Boats have been the preferred supplier to the Scandinavian 29er and 49er sailors since the late 90s. Sailors in both classes have been among the best in the world. There are very high expectations for the new Olympic 49erFX from ISAF, Ovington Boats and not least from the Scandinavian sailors and Sailing Associations. Considerable efforts in this class should be expected in the years to come.

Focus on increasing Skiff sailing throughout Scandinavia

The appointment of Dinghyshop as a dealer highlights the desire of both Ovington and Dinghyshop to increase, develop and service the sailing community in Scandinavia. At the same time, Dinghyshop expects to grow the 29er and 49er classes and to link strategic and operational ties to both top class sailors, class organizations as well as to the National Sailing Associations.

Dinghyshop – A well known and experienced team

It is a strong and experienced team standing behind the newly established DinghyShop ApS, which is owned and operated by Michael Thaarup and his son Frederick Thaarup, who both are very well known and established within the Scandinavian sailing community. Michael, who has his sailing experience from the BB10m and 1 Ton class, was among the initiators of the Danish Zoom8 Club back in 2000 and was chairman for many years while at the same time working as a Youth President of his local sailing club SKB-Hundige.

During his time at Børresen Boatyard in Vejle, he established a strong network within sailors, classes and Sailing Associations throughout Scandinavia. Since 2010, Michael has been associated with Ovington Boats, where he worked with the optimization and development of Ovington Boats European dealer network. Young Frederik is well known by his own merits in the Optimist and Zoom8 class, where he is a former multiple Danish, Nordic and World Champion.

"We are delighted to be working with Ovington Boats, we understand the task and look forward to increasing the efforts for expanding the skiff sailing activities throughout Scandinavia," says Michael Thaarup. He continues, "it is important to Scandinavian Sailing, that the current high international level in the 29er and 49er classes are maintained, but it is equally important to create optimal conditions for the girls' new 49erFX class, also the girls can reach the world elite level - for 2016, when the 49erFX will premiere at the Olympic Games in Rio."

"We will help out by doing what we are best at, namely; deliver the highest level of support, precision in logistics and customer service, a proactive approach and understanding of the challenges that sailors have today and will meet in the future".

"At Dinghyshop we will strive ourselves on selling and promoting the very best in products, and Ovington Boats produce boats with a quality and finish second to none and have a reputation to match."

Regatta support at the 29er Worlds and 49er/49erFX European and locally

The 49er and 49erFX Europeans are taking place in Aarhus from June 29th through July the 7th. The 29er World Championships is held from July 26th through August the 2nd. DinghyShop will be present during the entire period to support sailors with both spare parts and service.
