More than 30 young sailors took part in Draycote Water Sailing Club's annual youth and junior championship. With friendly racing suitable for both novices and experienced sailors, the event was open to any class of boat with a PY number - competitors were aged from eight to 18 and competed in boats ranging from Optimists to a Moth.

Two average lap handicap races were sailed back to back in the morning, followed by a pursuit race in the afternoon, with two races to count.

The Gladys Church Memorial Shield for under 12s saw nine entries and was won by RS Tera Sport sailor Jack Lewis. The Junior Monteyne Shield for 12 to 14-year-olds had 16 entries and was won by Benedict Aveyard in a Laser Radial. And the Youth Monteyne Shield for 15 to 18-year-olds, with nine entries, was won by Jamie Pearson sailing a Lowrider International Moth.

Youth and junior fleet captain Gill Pearson said: "It was great to see such a varied range of boats out on the course and to welcome so many new faces to the competition. It was quite windy and challenging at times and the less experienced sailors did really well to keep going."
