The RS Tera Class Association are delighted to announce that Flynn Davies of Burnham Sailing Club has been awarded the Class Association Training Legacy Grant for 2012/2013.
Flynn is 16 and has been sailing a Tera since 2009 and has just competed in his last event in the class. He started out sailing optimists before choosing to move into Teras and went on to complete three years in the National Pro Squad.
Flynn initially qualified for squads by coming 6th at his first ever Nationals in the sport fleet in 2009 and then going on to place 4th and 2nd at more recent National Championships.
In total he has completed four National, three World and three Inland Championships, he has won a number of open meetings in the class and participated in more than he can remember.
He has also been sailing an RS Feva, placing 11th out of 108 boats at the National and 25th out of 180 boats at the World Championship this year, winning open meetings and placing top 10 in a couple of the grand prix events.
Last year he was offered a place in the Feva Class National Squad and plans to compete for one further season before moving into RS200s or 29ers.
Flynn commented, "I would love the opportunity to share my love of the Tera and experience sailing it with future squaddies while my younger brother and sister continue to train with the squad and compete in the class."
Flynn will spend the winter gaining his formal instructors qualifications, acting as an assistant coach to the RS Tera Class Association Squads and will be mentored by Head Coach Jonathan Lewis.
We wish Flynn the best of luck with this and look forward to continuing the string of National and World success that has been coached in the class.
