Matt Trophy at Alexandra Yacht Club on Saturday

The Matt Trophy 2012 takes place at Alexandra Yacht Club on Saturday starting at 14.30. Competitors are required to get there an hour before for the safety briefing. The course is normally a three-lap triangle course set out according to the weather

The Matt Trophy Race is a race dedicated to our son who tragically died at the age of 17. The junior race is open to any club or individual under the age of 18 and is completely free to enter. Now in its third year, 2012 is an extra special time as Matthew would have been 21 in July.

The past two years the trophy has been won by Thorpe Bay Yacht Club. The race is held in the Thames Estuary at Southend On Sea. The event welcomes the whole family. Spectators can cheer from the jetty or can relax in the club house which overlooks the seafront.

After the race we will be holding a prize giving with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies to be taken on the day. The winner's name is also engraved on the Matt Trophy which is kept at the club.

Sailed in stunning conditions in Southend 2013 was the fourth year of the Matt Trophy. This year the race was sponsored by Summercare. Part of the fleet arrives on the back of a lorry 21 boats from 5 different clubs competed for the Matt Dear Trophy hosted by the Alexandra YC on the Thames Estuary at Southend on Sea.
