The first Mirror South West Travellers took place at Saltash Sailing
Club on Sunday 15 April. Saltash gave us a fantastic day with four
races in perfect conditions (F3 and sunny), sailing on the large area
of the Tamar north of the two bridges. The race committee selected the
day to give the best tidal conditions and maximum water allowing large
triangle and sausage courses.
This is the first visit to Saltash and we we hope not the last, with six
Mirrors enjoying some close racing on the Tamar river. With the tide
flooding, Martin and Harvey made the most of the conditions to record
two bullets with Tom and Niamh 2nd, Esme & Scarlett in their new boat
"Bootle Bumtrinket" 3rd in the 1st race.
In the 2nd race it was very close for 2nd, 3rd and 4th with Rebecca &
Lisa taking 2nd with Tom and Niamh somehow edging out Callum and Josh
right on the line to take 3rd place.
After lunch, with the tide now slack and starting to turn, Tom (powered
by sandwiches) and Niamh nailed the 3rd race to win by a margin from
Martin and Harvey with Rebecca and Lisa close behind in 3rd. It was
all going to hinge on the last race, but with Harvey feeling unwell
Martin was forced to retire. Tom and Niamh went on to record another
1st from Rebecca and Lisa 2nd and Callum & Josh 3rd.
Final positions:
1) Tom Cosier and Niamh O'Neill. Restronguet SC
2) Martin Egan and Harvey Martin. Restronguet SC
3) Rebecca Stephens and Lisa Pritchard. Penzance/Mounts Bay SC
4) Esme and Scarlett Shepherd. Restronguet SC
