What a brilliant turnout for the final Beaver Winter Series this Saturday. 13 boats in total competed in a fantastic event sponsored by ASDA, Farmer Copley's and Boat Bits. With light winds and constantly changing wind direction the racing was rather difficult.

However, the first race got off to an excellent start with Emma Grayson first round the windward mark followed closely by Will Hide and Emma Clayton, and Sarah Richards with Alexander. After an unfortunate meeting with a mark Will had to undergo penalty turns costing him 2 positions and ending up 4th in that race with Emma in 1st. Rob Dean was flying the flag for St Patrick's Day with the Irish flag hoisted to the top of his mast. Likewise, Harry Vanderwal and Rachel Grayson were wearing festive colours to celebrate the day.

The second race got up to a brilliant start and then suddenly there was a small issue with the fact that half the fleet went one way around the windward mark, and half to other way. Emma Grayson lead the first leg but hadn’t got the course before she came out, however she remembered that she could simply ask Matt for the course and all was fine. 15 minutes into the race a rescue boat sets off from the jetty sailing straight towards Emma and the other 4 boats that had gone one way. ‘So sorry guys but I’ve told Emma the wrong course’. Oops! Malcolm was the only boat to re-wind and start again but the others either retired or got a big fat DSQ. That’ll teach us to get the correct course!!

The final race was faced with the lightest winds of the day so the laps were pretty slow but still fun. Rachel Grayson stormed up out of nowhere and Sarah got a brilliant start at the port end and from then on was unstoppable.

The results for that day were as follows: 1st Sarah and Alexander; 2nd Emma Grayson; 3rd Reg and George; 4th Bob Towler; 5th Oliver White; 6th Will and Emma Hide; 7th Dom and Tom; 8th Sarah Clayton and Ed Rice-Burchill; 9th Richard Rennie; 10th Malcolm and Harry; 11th Rob Dean; 12th Andrew, Jack and Gemma; and finally 13th Annabelle and Will.

Harry won the green foghorn spot prize for the best green/dressed boat for St Paddy’s Day!

Series Results:

1st Emma Grayson
2nd Sarah and Alexander
3rd Will and Emma
4th Reg and George
5th Bob Towler
