West Highland Yachting Week running from July 28 to August 3rd will once again receive support from Tunnock’s, the famous Scottish biscuit manufacturers.

Announcing the news, Boyd Tunnock CBE, managing director of the Uddingston based company who is also an enthusiastic competitor in the event said: ‘We are delighted once again to be supporting this well loved yachting regatta which has such a loyal following and great camaraderie. We look forward to this year’s racing.’

Joint Regatta Committee chairman David Waltho said: ‘This is great news that Tunnock’s are again teaming up with West Highland Yachting Week. Our competitors have grown to associate the Tunnock’s brand as very much part of the Week.’

Tunnock’s will sponsor the spinnaker classes this year and these will be known as the Tunnock’s Fleet. The popular final race of the week from Tobermory to Oban is also sponsored by Tunnock’s with the Thomas Tunnock Trophy presented for the winner in Class 3. The Lemarac Cup named after Boyd Tunnock’s boat is awarded for the Class 3 winner on Thursday in the Sound of Mull races.

Iconic status

Tunnock’s quality biscuit products have given the brand an iconic Scottish status and last year the Tunnock’s tea cake eating contest showed that as well as being good at sailing, competitors are also good at eating Tunnock’s tea cakes! Indeed the renowned ‘Tunnock’s Survival Pack’ of biscuits is now symbolic of any well found yacht.

West Highland Yachting Week is well known as an event with something for everyone – from hotly competitive racing for IRC and CYCA classes to the white sail fleet with the emphasis on fun and family participation.

The 2012 regatta is celebrating it’s 65th year of racing and is shaping up to be another exciting event. Principal Race Officer is once again Malcolm MacGregor and after a good day’s sailing on the water, the popular après sail social programme provides a range of events for competitors and families.

The Notice of Race is available on the website www.whyw.co.uk
