Grenada Sailing Festival 2012

The popular Grenada Sailing Festival serves as a warm up for the start of the Caribbean Series and this year attracted 25 entries from Trinidad, Antigua, Carricou and Barbados. As well as the local boats there were also British entries; 'Girls For Sail' skippered by Anne O'Sullivan and 'Great Escape of Southampton' owned by Phil Munday from the Hamble.

Also in Cruising Class 2 were Chris Clark sailing Kotari from the Island Sailing Club, Cowes and Tanga Langa, skippered by Richard Jerrom from Royal Western Yacht Club.

Port Louis, the headquarters of this regatta, is a recently renovated marina surrounded by the stunning scenery of this mountainous island.The Marina also provides berths to many of the superyachts and is conveniently situated near to the capital of St Georges.

Held over 4 days, the event provided challenging racing on the south east corner of the island where the Atlantic waters meet the Caribbean. Competition was intense but it was the 'Trinny' yachts in the Racing Class that won overall. Slippery (RP47) owned and helmed by Peter Peake from Trinidad beat Blackberry Enzyme (Henderson 35) owned by Peter Solomon.

Well known skipper James Dobbs from Antigua sailing Lost Horizon (J122) was in third place.

In Cruising Section 1, 1st went to Jaguar (Frers 43) raced by Peter Morris. 2nd, Boxxer, (Jeanneau 51) owned by Canadian, Scott Watson.

Cruising Section 2 was won by Die Hard (J24 owned by Robbie Yearwood) from Grenada. 2nd place was Bloody Mary (Hughes 38) owned by Jerry Stewart from Carricou. 3rd was Rasmus (Swan 430) owned by Austrian D Huppenkothen.

In the Multihull class Rush skippered by Chris Long (Grenada) won.

Charter Class saw My Mistress (Sloop 46) skippered by Robert Mills (Barbados) win.
